What it shows
One face presents a neoclassical building with a colonnade beneath a semicircular pediment. Along the upper arch runs the engraved legend SOLO A LA CONSTANCIA Y, and in the exergue reads AL VALOR MILITAR. The other face is filled by a multi-line inscription: SE COLOCO LA PRIMERA PIEDRA POR EL EXMO. SEÑ. PRESIDENTE CIUD. ANTONIO LOPEZ DE SANTA-ANNA EN 27 DE SETIEMBRE DE 1843. The legends are transcribed exactly as they appear struck.
Context
The inscription itself dates the piece to the twenty-seventh of September, 1843, and links it to the laying of a cornerstone during the presidency of Antonio López de Santa Anna.
