Bakers, an essential trade in every city, organized like other guilds into mutual aid societies to protect themselves against illness, accident, or death. In a time without social security, reciprocal aid among workers of the same trade was the only protection network available.

This piece served as an emblem for the members of the bakers' association. It documents how mutualism was organized trade by trade, giving cohesion to each guild.
