No. The Numista catalog reports a mintage of 746,400 coins for the 2012 Mo (Mexico City mint) issue, a high-production year. Its value comes from silver content plus the series premium, not from scarcity. If someone tells you a standard 2012 BU is "rare" or "worth hundreds," they are wrong. The scarce piece is the Proof, and even that is priced on demand for the finish, not on it being a museum rarity.

The myths to ignore

"It has no face value, so it must be worth a fortune." The opposite. No face value means it is a pure bullion coin priced by the ounce, like a gold or silver bar with a nicer design.

"There's a valuable 2012 minting error." There is no documented, famous 2012 error that spikes the price. What raises value is the Proof finish and the smaller fractional sizes, not errors. Be skeptical of any seller offering a "rare error" without third-party certification from NGC or PCGS.

This piece is the 1 troy oz Silver Libertad, struck by the Mexican Mint in 2012 in its Regular BU version.

Technical data. It contains 31.1 g of pure silver, .999 fineness, and measures 40 mm in diameter. On the reverse it bears the effigy of the Angel of Independence, chosen by Banxico as the official symbol of the series since 1981. On the obverse appears the National Coat of Arms in its pre-1969 version, alongside other historical coats of arms as an identity mark of the family.
