1993 Mexico 10 Centavos (Stainless Steel): What It's Worth
Identify the denomination, year, mint mark, and variety. Look it up in the Pesoteca catalog or Krause (KM) to find the official mintage. Grade the condition (Sheldon scale 1-70; 60+ is uncirculated). Multiply the base value by condition. For pieces worth more than about 250 USD, certify with NGC or PCGS before selling.
Buy only from reputable sellers: certified dealers, verified members of the Pesoteca forum, established auction houses. Weigh and measure before paying for large pieces. For anything above roughly 500 USD, require NGC or PCGS certification.
Document your coin (photos of the obverse, reverse, and edge, plus weight and catalog data). Certify it if it is valuable. Sell where the audience is: the Pesoteca forum (direct reach), Morton (premium pieces), or online marketplaces for volume. Set your price using the catalog ranges.
Colonial 8 escudos gold pieces (0.875 fine, viceregal era) in MS-65 or better can reach tens of thousands of dollars, and the finest examples have crossed into six figures at auction. Among modern coins, a proof 1910 Caballito peso in silver or an error variant can top 5,000 USD.
Not always. A modern proof with a low mintage (for example, a 1996 Onza Libertad silver ounce) can be worth more than a common circulated coin from the 1800s. What matters is relative rarity (supply versus demand), not age by itself.
